PURPLE NIGHT STAND

It always amazes me how a finished piece could end up so far from the initial vision. I started painting over the original white finish of this nightstand with a pale purple, and was then going to decoupage some light pink flowers on top. I have to admit, it looked horribly drab, and quickly became the subject of a lot of jokes. As if that wasn’t enough, it was also missing a drawer. The idea of a fur-lined shelf was intriguing to me and I couldn’t let it go. That would solve the problem of the empty space above the drawer. But something that edgy would never work with the outdated looking pale purple paint. So I quickly went over the purple, until I felt it was vibrant enough. The top was achieved by cropping a wall stencil. Everything came together quickly after that: the hand painted raised stencil, the black top and drawer, the white fur shelf, and the funky over-sized custom clear globe hardware.
