PLANT STAND

This was the first piece I worked on, and probably the one closest to my heart. The blue/green chalk paint was custom blended with acrylics. A steel cable wraps around beautiful, antique Ukrainian crosses. The crosses and poem are encased in Art Resin epoxy. As with most of my attempts with furniture, the end result is usually quite different from my original vision. This was no exception. I let the piece evolve as I painted, trying not to become too attached to the outcome. Surprisingly, it transformed itself into something very personal. In a very trying period in my life, I would write poetry to help cope with the issues I was facing. I copied this from an old notebook filled with scribbled attempts to express my feelings at the time. The words handwritten among the crosses read: “I let my tears fall; Their sound, my song; I sing it to You; When I have no words; When I cannot speak; When I need You to feel; What I feel…”
